Launch Meeting - Technology Committee Meeting
On May 24th the Technology Committee is proud to announce Dr. Ray Sommer's presentation "Creating
Business Advantage Using B2B Trade Exchange Technology." Dr. Sommer is
working with Boeing, the National Tsing Hua University (NTHU), and Devco
Inc. to build a laboratory to facilitates enterprise application integration
and e-commerce trading exchanges in Taiwan. George Mason is the core technology service provider for the NTHU laboratory that will demonstrate how Taiwan enterprises can interoperate with a modern trading hub. The project draws on international companies and solution providers and will be supplemented with training and demonstrations in the areas of dynamic content management, supply chain management, and business process logic integration. About the Speaker Dr. Sommer is Associate Professor of Public Policy and Systems Engineering as well as the assistant director of the Policy Analysis Center of the George Mason University School of Public Policy. While employed at GMU he has held several research and teaching positions in the fields of Business-to-Business (B2B) electronic commerce and supply chain integration, international telecommunication, Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) system implementation and design, and most recently ERP-based Business Process Engineering methods.
About the AmCham Technology Committee The American Chamber of Commerce in Taipei invites member participation in
the newly formed Technology Committee. The Technology Committee provides a
forum to address issues relating to both technology and business, presents
the latest product and service trends, and highlights emerging
opportunities. The committee has an information technology focus but is open
to any high-tech area that impacts trade and development. The co-chairs of the Technology Committee are Dr. Charles Trappey and Mr. Philip Diller. Professor Trappey is the Associate Dean of the College of Management at National Chiao Tung University in Hsinchu. Mr. Diller is a principle of Pristine Communications, a long-time player in Greater China's technology localization industry. Join the Technology Committee Taiwan is very dynamic in terms of technology and product development. The production, domestic sales, and export sales from Taiwan's electronics industry grew steadily from 1991 to 1999 and surpassed the US$ 60 billion dollar export level. Production has jumped 211% for PDAs in the last year and 298% for digital cameras. Biotechnology research is moving forward with funding from the Executive Yuan in excess of US$30 million. Forecasts indicate that the value of the island's biotechnology and pharmaceutical industries will reach US$ 5 billion by the year 2005. |
